Been busy in my art studio this week working on some new Dance pieces. I love to work from photographs and turn them around my mind until they become amazing works and more pleasing to the eye. Here is the first piece of art I’m working on this week. It is very colorful. I am calling Dance in my Studio.

the Manta

I have refused for years to ride the coasters at Busch Gardens- the Alpengeist, Apollo’s Chariot, Griffon. But there we were at SeaWorld standing beneath the riders on this thing called the “Manta” with everyone around me commenting on “how smooth ” it is etc etc blah blah. So maybe it was the heat (94?) but I decided I would ride it but it had to be right then and there before I lost my courage. There were the usual warnings about back pain, pregnancies (no chance there!) and a little scarier prohibitions against people wearing prostheses- what was that all about!!! Will my grandson was just tall enough to be able to ride and Luke was willing so we walked through the cool tunnel leaning to the ride. Amazing- no time to back off. In a heartbeat I was locked into it and tilting facedown then going up very slowly -high enough to have a panoramic view of central Florida if I weren’t so terrified- and then all the way down twisting and turning and upside down with me screaming OMG! for 2 minutes before returning to terra firma. So I can now say I did it and have the photo to prove it. What next -hang gliding??

Hi all

Here it is the end of summer and beginning of the school year for many – even grandparents are involved in that process- and when you catch your breathe you can ruminate on life (don’t you just love that word?) . I hope to ruminate more on tis site- after the holiday! I took photos of 2 works in progress to post on this blog but unfortunately they are in cyberspace-until my tech guy can find them. Which makes me wonder about how full cyberspace can get before something awful happens. I will be more organized and post many more pieces this fall.

“Making Me Dizzy” 48×60

“Making Me Dizzy” is a large acrylic 48×60. It hangs in my husband’s office in Hampton Virginia where it takes up a large spot on a reception room wall. Another in a series of carnival/ festival paintings this piece is a bit more abstract in its design and has more dark passages in it than usual . I really like it- it has to me the feeling of wandering around a carnival or even a Busch Gardens kind of place, at night. The sky is black and the nights are glaring.

This is “Ocean Music” – 24×30 inch canvas that is a continuation of my dance series. But it is less about a recognizable dance form than just my feeling of a couple who are on the shore and no she is not beating him with a stick!

After the Fair

After the Fair II 45×52 acrylic on canvas

Yes there is an “After the Fair (I)” but it is smaller and I decided I need to keep it for myself for a while. This does happen to artists. we fall in love with some pieces of our art and unlike , say, a writer who publishes so that the public can enjoy his/her art form yet keeps the original (although it usually sits on a disk somewhere or in cyberspace), a painter who sells the work- well that is it. Even if you keep a photo or have a giclee printed it is not the same as the original. So I painted the second one which is different from the first - I cannot seem to recreate the original. The subject is based on my experiences at the carnival- specifically the one that comes to Hampton Virginia each year- American Amusements. I feel comfortable taking photos even though this painting is less about the carnival than about 3 invented girls who are leaving it after what was hopefully a great evening. I enjoy having whoever views it determine what they are saying and doing.
