Most of you know I’ve been painting for a long time. What you might not know is that I have a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.
I never used it. Not in the way you’d expect.
Right after I got that degree, I went to work as a newspaper illustrator at the Daily Press. Before that, I’d spent time at Electric Boat in their Human Factors division, developing a scientific library. From there to newsprint, from newsprint to canvas.
I have never regretted any of it. More on that story another time.
What I want you to know is that by the time I showed up as a painter, I had already figured out how to work hard and start over more than once. My resume doesn’t look like most artists’.
It matters. You’ll understand why soon.
