Day Off started as a small image of a girl in black and white which you can see in a rectangle in the middle of the image. As I looked at it I realized that the position of her hands was weird. She looked like she was about to grab something. So I decided that I would have her gripping the handlebars of a bicycle which you can see in the next image.
This was a smallish painting on paper and I already had a frame with glass and mat- oh joy- but the mat was blotched with smudges so I took the liberty of painting the mat, extending the girl into her setting. I really like this one.
